ISNHS' 123rd YEAR!

 The 123rd Foundation Day of Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS) was successfully celebrated and here is my fun and wonderful experience throughout the two days of celebration: 

      Since I was a part of the Debate Club which is an affiliate of the English Club, we opened a booth that is open to all of the people in ISNHS, we sold stickers, customized pins, photocards, albums, and bracelets that people loved. We also gave our freebies for each of their purchases. This happened during the first day of high school day. 

     On the second day, a foot parade was conducted early morning to formally start off our Foundation Day, as you can see in the image that we are prepared together with our banners! 

Here's a picture with my classmates together with our adviser, Ma'am Remy. 

After the foot parade, we were recognized as one of the Most Disciplined Section during the foot parade! 

This was during our Field Demonstration and we were ranked as the 4th. On the other hand, the boys were ranked as the 2nd place. 

    After our fun and exhausting performance, we just simply ate some chicken barbecue from Mang Inasal, which we enjoyed and had a casual conversation with 10 - Maxwell along with our adviser. 

      The significance of the yearly celebration of the Foundation Day of ISNHS is that we will never forget how our school started. And that until now, it continued to progress and facilitate learning that students won't forget. Thanks to the people who always makes this day possibly in order to commemorate our founding anniversary. May we continue to always celebrate this significantly relevant event in our alma mater. Together let us Soar, Fly, and Aim high for Ilocos Sur National High School!

ESTUDYANTEPRENEURS!

 

The Estudyantepreneur by the students with the guidance of teachers who are inclined with the TLE subject showed their different skills in making future businesses that are suitable and practical for the future.

These are the booths/services that they offer: 

We played a game wherein you must move the hook to the other side without                               touching the metal part of the device, but we failed to do so. 

After a few steps on the way to the other services and booths, we finally arrived at                                                          the beauty care station. 

Nail care by TLE - Beauty Care students, they offer nail art and cleaning for students and teachers. 

Film viewing in computer rooms by the TLE- ICT teachers that showcases the best short-films made by Grade 8 Special Science Class students. 

Dart game by the Agriculture booth wherein you can earn points and prices like candies and school supplies. 

That's ends our journey on exploring the different booths and services they offer! I had fun visiting each of them. This is one of the activities that I look forward to every school year.

THE LAST AND FINAL QUARTER

         The last quarter of the school year has finally come to an end. In this quarter, we have learned about the software application called the Microsoft Front Page or the MS Frontpage 2003. We learned how to make web pages without the struggle of coding HTML codes because this application is a graphical HTML tool that allows us to experience the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) in making a web page easier and more convenient. Moreover, we now know how to insert images, texts, hyperlinks, align, change fonts, colors, adjust pictures and text sizes, preview pages, and many more that are essential in creating a web page. Futhermore, we have also learned the different types of tabs, tools, properties previews, etc. In short, in this quarter we mainly focused about the application in making a web page in a simpler way. And lastly we have learned about Networking and its types such as the LAN, MAN, PAN, and more. We also tackled the different types of network cables like coaxial cables and fiber optic cables. 

   The problems and challenges that I have personally encountered are loss of connection, error in inserting and copying that causes my works to be finalized and saved. This delayed my time on working in making a web page, including my other classmates that experienced the same technical error. The previews were also not that helpful because it was not accurate to what I have worked on. It pushed me to work on a new page for my website to work. 

          I addressed these problems and challenges through refreshing, troubleshooting, and rebooting our server in order to retrieve our connection back. I did the same with the errors about saving and inserting needed details. And I properly saved and viewed my works with the help of my classmates and teachers. We helped each other to solve these issues.  

       Moving on, I will not forget the knowledge that I have gained in this quarter and I will carry it until in the high grade levels. These have helped me discover things that I didn't know before, but now I am familiar in using these applications that I never knew it was possible. We should continue the pursuit of learning and let us be eager to learn new things as time passes by.

YOUTH FADES, WISDOM GROWS

 

     I think that growth is one of the most beautiful part of a life of an individual. Through growth, they discover things that they never though it would be possible. Such as interests, skills, talents, personalities, characteristics, and many more. As time passes, these factors continue to grow and nurture for their futures and until they reach the older stages of life. 

     I see myself 15 years from now, that I have finished my studies, and found a good and stable job to sustain my everyday living. Probably, I would be working in the medical or veterinary field. I also expect that I will find a person or a significant someone that will be my companion for the rest of my life. Most possibly, I will have a child whom I will give all my love and care to him/her. I just hope that in a span of 15 years, I will achieve things that I have always wished for. This goes the same for my friends and family that I hope we will see each other grow as the years go by. 

     In 15 years, I hope that we will all achieve things that we desire. As time passes by, may our hopes and dreams in 15 years come true. I will continue to pray for success, happiness, and good luck not only on myself, but for everyone. I hope that the odds are on our side.

WE CAN BE ALL EQUAL

       Gender equality is when people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities. Everyone is affected by gender inequality - women, men, trans and gender diverse people, children and families. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Moreover, men and women have equal rights and responsibilities in the society they belong to. Gender equality is also about sharing responsibility for the development of all. If gender prevents us from seeing the weaknesses and strengths of each individual, it can lead to discrimination against each other.

     An inclusive society recognizes and celebrates the diversity of its members, promoting equal opportunities and eliminating barriers to full participation. It goes beyond mere coexistence, aiming for the genuine integration of all individuals, regardless of their origin, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, or any other unique traits.

     This theme for Womens' Month: WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society mainly aims for gender equality and an inclusive society that provides individuals a space where they can thrive without the worry of discrimination and fear. In these theme we can surely achieve a society where it is safe and free from harm and discrimination.

Intayon, ILOCOS SUR!

     Ilocos Sur is located in the northern tip of the island of Luzon. It faces the West Philippine Sea and to the east is the mountainous area called Cordilleras. It used to be part of Provincia Ilocos, a region that was composed of Abra, Ilocos Norte, and La Union during the Spanish period. 

    Kannawidan Festival or known as the Ilocos Sur Festival is an annual festival in Ilocos Sur usually starting February 2 - 13 that celebrates the founding anniversary of the province. The two-week long celebration consists of activities like street dancing, presenting local products and delicacies known as the OTOP (One Town One Product) from around the province, arts, culture, music, fun runs, and many more to showcase Ilocos Sur's rich culture and history. 

    The significance of the Ilocos Sur festival is to recognize it as a province since 1818 that highlights the province's history and origin. Moreover, it showcases the Ilocanos' traditional dances and music that are still relevant until now. The promotion of the local food and products such as bibingka, empanada, the abel Iloco, empanada, longganisa, cacao, garlic, etc. that is important in the economic growth of the province and helps the local workers. This festival preserves the Ilocanos' rich culture and heritage.

You Make Me Feel Special └⁠(⁠ ⁠＾⁠ω⁠＾⁠)⁠」

      Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14 because the Roman Catholic church honored two saints named Valentine on that day.  Both of the saints were ancient Romans who died due to their Christian faith.

       Nowadays, Valentine's is the day to celebrate and express love, romance, friendships, and admiration. This is the day that you can show your love through greeting cards, chocolates, flowers, and gifts or anything that makes a person feel loved, appreciated, and seen. 

     I personally show my affection with words, simply greeting my teachers, family, classmates,  relatives, and friends with "Happy Valentine's Day" or "Happy Hearts' Day." I would also express my affection and gratitude by giving them handcrafted presents or crafts such as paper flowers, letters with sweet treats. These may be simple, but these are my ways to show that I genuinely care for them. I can see through their expressions that they can truly feel my appreciation when I hand them the gifts.

OUR RESEARCH JOURNEY!

       In this thematic output, I am going to show a simple photoblog on what we did during our Community-Based Research Project that was done in our municipality, Caoayan. Here are our photos that we have gained during the process of our research: 

We have arrived at the municipal hall of Caoayan to start off our interviews for our research project. 

  Our first stop was the ancestral house of Don Dimas Querubin Llanes to gather information that is carved infront of his house. 

                

 This picture was after the interview with the Barangays Captain of Don Dimas to get additional information about the three baranggays named Don Dimas Querubin, Don Alejandro, and Don Lorenzo Querubin.

                       

  As we went further, we keep finding more statues with information so we decide to read and gather them.

    More documents that we got from the interviews of the Barangays. 

Going further to find out more information that is significant for the data of our research project.

Asking locals if they know more people that we could possibly interview to dig deeper knowledge on our research topic. 

We reached the house of the former Barangay Captain of Don Dimas to ask him questions regarding the three barangays in Caoayan which are Don Dimas, Don Alejandro, and Don Lorenzo. 

After we got all the information and data we needed we did the write-ups of our research to successfully document and place what we gathered into the research paper. 

Finally, our Community-Research Based Project is now ready to print and turn into a web page! 

 

THE 3RD REFLECTION

     

          The Third Quarter has come to an end. I have gained a lot of knowledge once again. First, we did our first Community-Based Research Project that required us to go to the barangays in our municipality to interview the locals for our research topic, specifically for historic purposes of our municipality. After finishing the interviews, we did the write-ups to complete our research paper. Furthermore, after accomplishing our Community-Based Research project, we learned about more html tags, like the HTML lists and nesting lists that we can use for our web designs. Once the lectures were done, using the data from our research project, we created a web design regarding our research topic. We applied different tags and attributes that we have learned in HTML and we learned to use CSS for our web page. Then we presented our web design in class. In general, I have gained a lot of experiences and knowledge from these tasks and activities. 

           The obstacles that I have encountered are the time during our community interviews, it was difficult to find locals that we could interview for our topic. Another is the lack of resources or previous studies from the internet regarding our research topic. And as usual, there were technical issues and network issues in the computer lab that caused a delay on our exers, blogs, web designs, and write-ups for research. 

           I addressed these challenges by asking other locals who we could possibly interview for our research. We did some deeper research and oral interviews to gather further information. And we refreshed the computers and server computers for the computers to work efficiently and effectively to solve the lagging, crashing, and network issues. With proper measures and cooperation, we resolved the challenges in no time. 

      

            

                   Moving on, I will continue to share my skills and talents to further enhance my skills in ICT class. I will continue to work and study for future exers, activities, and blogs. Participation and teamwork is also crucial to successfully carry out the challenges and tasks, so I will continue to do well in these. And I will continue to apply what I have learned in the past experiences and lessons that we shared in this quarter.

KUNG HEI FAT CHOI

              The Chinese New Year that is being celebrated every January 29 is adapted by the Filipinos. Filipinos are greatly influenced by the Chinese people so they celebrate Chinese New Year. Celebrating the Chinese New Year also known as the Lunar New Year is said to bring good luck and prosperity in the coming year for everyone. Chinese New Year is celebrated in many Asian countries, including the Philippines.  

             The usual practice that Filipinos continue to do in order to celebrate Chinese New Year is wearing red colored clothes because red is what they call a lucky color. Moreover, they give out red envelopes filled with bills, which they call the "ang pao". Furthermore, they would cook the traditional glutinous sticky delicacy, which is the Tikoy. Tikoy comes in different flavors like ube, pandan, original, chocolate, and more. There are many ways to cook tikoy. And lastly, Filipinos would also consult a feng shui for advice and read Chinese horoscopes. 

            In general, celebrating Chinese New Year is a part of Filipino culture due to the influence of the Chinese people. They continue to adapt practices and traditions that make the essence of prosperity and good luck to continue in the next following years. We can see that in the near future, celebrating the Lunar New Year would still be relevant like the other holidays that Filipinos continue to celebrate.

VIGAN CITYHOOD

                             

                The City of Vigan was founded in 1572 by Spanish conquistador Juan de Salcedo. Vigan became a centre for Spanish political, religious, and commercial operations in the northern Philippines. Ciudad Fernandina, named for King  Ferdinand II, was highly inspired by Spanish architecture and culture, as demonstrated by its well-preserved historic quarter.            

       

Vigan City, the provincial capital, is located roughly 408 kilometres north of Manila, 139 kilometres north of San Fernando City, La Union, the regional capital, and 80 kilometres south of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. Sixteen (16) municipalities and two (2) cities, Vigan and Candon, are located along the shore, primarily in lowland areas. The very first congressional district of Ilocos Sur is controlled by a mayor and a city council under the Local Government Code. The mayor, vice mayor, and councillors are elected directly upon by the people during an election.

     

Vigan is notable for retaining much of its Hispanic colonial heritage, particularly its grid street pattern and old urban layout. Its significance also stems from how the many architectural elements are combined to create an attractive townscape. Vigan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its distinctive blend of Asian and European architecture. Today, it is a renowned tourist site, known for its rich history and cultural value.

New Year, New Me? I Hope So!

            2024 was not my best year. I faced a lot of struggles and problems that I thought I couldn't overcome. But here I am today. I am about to accept what 2025 could offer. As the year 2025 starts, I am hoping it is a better year than 2024. I pray that it will give me more strength and motivation to keep me going throughout the year to be able to face future challenges and accept opportunities. 

          Furthermore, I wish to improve my weaknesses so I will be able to grow in things that do. Things like managing my time in studies but at the same time prioritizing myself, especially my mental health.  I also would like to try new things, like sports and baking. 

          To conclude, I believe in the quote that my teacher once said: "There is no harm in trying." So we have to keep trying, because that's what life is all about.

Last Christmas! (2024)

          Christmas is about the birth of God's son, Jesus. It's about how he came to give us love, joy, and hope. I spent my Christmas vacation with my family, friends, and including pets. Our Christmas Vacation started on December 21st. 

 

        My aunt and cousins came home for the holidays so days before Christmas eve, we went to places in Vigan like the Vigan night market, dancing fountain, the Ilocos Sur capitol, Calle Crisologo, and more. My cousin and I tried new things like baking. We made a lot of banana bread as snacks.

 

         Moreover, I spent more time playing and walking with our two dogs named Kimchi and Sunshine. We also watched movies and played board games. On Christmas and new year's eve we ate and bonded together as a family. I spent my Christmas vacation in a simple way but I enjoyed it because people who are important in my life made it memorable.

THE TAG ENDS HERE

 

               Quarter Two was a like a roller coaster ride it had ups and downs, but it has finally come to an end. I have survived half the school year. And throughout the journey, I have learned a lot of things. Like about the functions of the HTML  (Hypertext Markup Language) tags. Mostly, I have learned about how significant tags and attributes are in web designs such as in inserting paragraphs, tables, rows, columns, background colors & images, font attributes, alignment & formatting tags, hyperlinks, and many more.

  The difficulties that I have encountered are the typhoons that continued to occur that caused delays to our lessons and activities. Moreover, our servers were almost down everyday due to the poor network connection that lead to our hands on activities unsaved. And I had difficulties in my mouse and keyboard because it was stiff that took my time a little longer than usual.

           After the occurrence of the typhoons and classes started to resume, our teacher gave us extra time to do our pending activities and quizzes. We discussed  I also asked for extra help from my classmates who are on the same server at the times where I was having a hard time on some of the activities.

             Moving on, I will continue to learn and apply the lessons that I have gained in our ICT class. Just like on the past quarter's reflection, I will try my best and I will do what it takes to make the best out of everything. And for me to successfully carry out my fourth year journey in ICT.

STOP THE VIOLENCE, PROMOTE PEACE AND INTEGRITY

Violence Against Women (VAW) is one of the country’s pervasive social problems. According to the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 17.5% of Filipino women aged 15-49 have experienced forms of physical, sexual, and emotional violence from their intimate partners. As of 2021, there were 8,399 reported cases of physical violence, 1,791 on rape, and 1,505 on acts of lasciviousness. Based on these statistics, violence is still prevalent and our country and it continues to be an societal issue in the country.

According to Republic Act 9262 or also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, VAW is “any act or a series of acts committed by any person against a woman who is his wife, former wife, or against a woman with whom the person has or had a sexual or dating relationship, or with whom he has a common child, or against her child whether legitimate or illegitimate, with or without the family abode, which result in or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or economic abuse including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty.”

The 18 Day Campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW) that starts from November 25 to December 12 that aims to end any form of violence against women.

This will strengthen laws about other forms violence like:

Republic Act No. 11313 or "The Safe Spaces Act"

- The policy of the State to value the dignity of every human person and guarantee full respect for human rights. It is likewise the policy of the State to recognize the role of women in nation-building and ensure the fundamental equality before the law of women and men. The State also recognizes that both men and women must have equality, security and safety not only in private, but also on the streets, public spaces, online, workplaces and educational and training institutions.

Republic Act No. 9207 or "Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003"

- Is hereby declared that the State values the dignity of every human person and guarantees the respect of individual rights. In pursuit of this policy, the State shall give highest priority to the enactment of measures and development of programs that will promote human dignity, protect the people from any threat of violence and exploitation, eliminate trafficking in persons, and mitigate pressures for involuntary migration and servitude of persons, not only to support trafficked persons but more importantly, to ensure their recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration into the mainstream of society.

Together, let us build a society that is free from any harm or violence and aim for a place that promotes safety, equal rights, and inclusivity for all.
